Assembly of Delegates

The biennial Assembly of Delegates is the highest governing body of the association. Its decrees obligate all members and branches of UMANA. The Assembly meets once every two years, near the end of each administrative period. The Board of Directors, which includes the executive committee and the branch presidents, acts between meetings of the assembly.

Executive Committee

The Executive committee consists of the president, president elect, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, one representative branch president, and the non-voting executive director. The committee acts on issues between meetings of the Board of Directors.

Chapter Assembly

Presidents and officers are elected at their local branch meetings. They represent UMANA members who are enrolled in that geographic area (branch). Each branch functions independently, but is governed by the current UMANA by-laws.

History

The Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) was incorporated as a professional organization in New York City in 1950.

Under the leadership of Roman Osinchuk, MD, post World War II Ukrainian immigrant physicians united in an association of physicians and dentists, sharing the immigrant experience, expanding their educational possibilities, and interacting with colleagues in an exchange of medical knowledge and practice.

Members

UMANA members are dedicated to sharing their professional expertise and cultural heritage with their colleagues and public at large.

Membership is open to students, residents, and graduates of recognized professional schools (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and affiliates, such as nurses, psychologist, physical therapist, dieticians, etc) as well as graduates of schools beyond the USA and Canada who are interested in pursuing a license in the health professions on North America.
